Hello everyone! In today’s vlog, I’d like to share with you my recent experience at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. One thing that I found to be more difficult than I imagined during this journey is using the facilities. Ever since I cut my hair in early adulthood, I have dealt with a lot of issues related to using the women’s facilities. I have been yelled at, looked at oddly, received hurtful comments and have literally been chased out. Since I started transitioning, I have found that I am much more accepted in the men’s facilities. So far I have not received any odd looks, comments or anything of the like. It is truly amazing and I am so excited to continue to feel accepted and in the right place.
I have found that when you have to ask though, it may raise questions and possible denial of your request. Luckily, I have an amazing sister-in-law, Caitlyn that stood up for me at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa this last week. My wife and I had a spa day scheduled and I was hoping to use the men’s facilities. We would be using the pool, getting massages, and hanging out for the day. When Caitlyn asked about me using the men’s facilities, she was told at first that it is based on genitalia.
The thing about this is that I don’t ever plan on having bottom surgery. You don’t need to to change your gender legally and it is still recognized. In fact, over 90% of trans men only go on hormones and get top surgery. When Caitlyn shared this with her manager, they seemed to understand and were very accommodating after that. We were treated with nothing other than respect there and it was a great experience. I definitely look forward to going back one day.
Cheers until next time!
